Summary
Information about MacDonald of Glencoe's piper and his descendants.
MacDonald of Glencoe's piper was a Henderson. On the night of the massacre, he fled with the heir. He carried him for eighteen miles over the hills in his plaid, playing the pipes all the way until he arrived at a friend's house. When he had delivered the heir safely he broke the drones of his pipes over his knee. He never played again.
There has been a piper in each generation of that family of Hendersons ever since, including the contributor. There are only two of these Henderson families left in Ardnamurchan today [1954]. Information about another Henderson piper the contributor met. He was descended from the same man.
