Summary

A ship sailed through a storm safely after witches came on board in the form of crows.

The contributor heard the story 'Oidhche nan Seann Doirlinn' from his father. This was the name given to a terrible storm in which many fishing boats were lost. One Ardnamurchan boat coped well. Three witches came aboard in the form of crows and perched on the yardarm. When the boat seemed to be in danger of sinking, the third crow told the boatman that water wouldn't drown him and fire wouldn't burn him. The crows flew away and the boat was the only one to reach harbour safely.
