Summary - A Traveller saw a real ghost after he had tried to frighten a boy who prayed all the time.

One night a boy of fourteen or fifteen came to a place where two Traveller families were camped. He was an orphan who had run away from a children's home, and the Travellers took him in. They found that the boy was always praying, and became irritated by it. One of the Travellers put a white shirt or nightdress up in a tree near the tents one night, hoping to scare the boy out of his praying. The boy saw the pretend ghost, but just carried on. The next night, the man who had put the white cloth in the tree was putting out the fire at midnight when he saw a real ghost. He got such a fright that he ran into the tent where the boy was and prayed.
