Summary
People walked or cycled a long way to dances; the dances named; days out from Balfron.
When the contributors were young, people went a long way on foot or by bicycle to dances. A blind pianist from Fintry, Mr Pride, used to walk home after playing at a dance. Melodeons and accordions were also used to accompany dancing. Dances always started with the Circassian Circle, and they had the Lancers, quadrilles, eightsome reels, strip the willow, and the Duke of Perth.
Days out from Balfron were usually to Glasgow rather than Stirling, because the train service was better.
