Whisky and barley in Tiree.
The contributor recites a section of a poem composed by Duncan Bàn MacIntyre in praise of whisky. He feels that whisky has become very expensive; when he was young, a bottle of whisky could be obtained for half a crown, though at that time money was much scarcer. At one time, so much barley was grown in Tiree that they could supply all the neighbouring islands with whisky. Very little is grown now [1968].
