Summary
Some information on the houses people had on Mingulay.
All the houses on Mingulay were thatched, apart from the schoolhouse and the church. They were thatched with grass, placed on top of turfs. They were thatched anew every year, with the thatch held down with ropes. Ropes could be made from marram grass. There would be a chimney at each end of the house, and open fires.
