Summary

How Maggie Stewart was persuaded to make recordings; a song about Davie Robertson.

Maggie Stewart tells how her cousin badgered her to make records and sell them, although she felt her voice was weak in comparison with Jeannie [Robertson]'s. One song was about Davie, the Iron Man. One time Maria and Jeannie were singing to Maggie's children from a book about Bonny Prince Charlie, and Maggie joined in with words about Davie Robertson, Maria's father:

Wha wadna follae auld drunken Davie?
Wha wadna follae the auld drunken man?
Wha wadna follae auld Robertson fae Struan,
That great, kind-hearted auld hawkin man?

Maggie made some changes to the song as composed by Maria, and Davie encouraged her to record her version. Maggie herself had nothing to play it on. Stanley Robertson remembers her playing it in his house.
