Summary

Entertainment after sheep shearing was finished.

After the clipping [sheep shearing] was finished, there would often be singing, and dancing if someone had a fiddle. One farmer used to sing 'We're a' Scottish Here'. 'Lads that was Reared among Heather' was popular, and a roadman who helped at the clipping used to sing 'Father O'Flynn has a Wonderful Way with Him'. Sometimes there would be races for the prize of a fleece. Willie Scott recalls this happening when they finished clipping at a farm where there were black sheep. They finished at dinner time [i.e. midday] and had races, including a hill race, and wrestling and jumping competitions.
