Summary
In the first five couplets of this waulking song as sung here, the poetess tells how she is melancholy, as she is pining for the one she loves. The song then continues with a series of couplets which tell of 'Margaret of the wiles', who is accusing the composer of being pregnant. The composer compares her own house, where venison is eaten, with that of her accuser, where only the heads and bones of fish can be found.
Item Notes
40 lines sung. This song is sometimes attributed to the bardess Mary MacLeod (Màiri nighean Alasdair Ruaidh), though there is some debate about this.
