Title - Information about the Book of Black Arts; a man rescued from...
Contributors - Jnr. Peter Leith
Reporters - Alan J. Bruford

Summary - Information about the Book of Black Arts; a man rescued from it by a minister.

Peter Leith heard about the Book of Black Arts from his father, who probably heard it by word of mouth. The book could be obtained by selling your soul to the Devil. It gave you control over everything: one man could make stones jump into his cart just by whistling. Once you got the book you could not get rid of it or destroy it. One troubled man took it to the Rev. Charles Clouston of Sandwick (whose manse is now the house of Flotterston). The minister bought the book for a silver coin. If you did not open it you weren't absolutely in its clutches, so the minister buried it in his garden, unopened and beneath a Bible. According to tradition it is still there.
