Summary

John Campbell, originally from Islay, was a factor in Tiree. A song was composed to him. He had two nicknames; Am Bàillidh Mòr [the big factor] and An Seiclear [the scratcher]. He was factor during the contributor's father's time. It was composed by MacDougall, one of the Balephuil bards, who was originally from Mull. The song is based around the nickname of the scratcher, while his ground-officer is called 'am peata' [the pet].

In the song, the bard asks that 'the scratcher' be kept from him, as he would prefer 'the pet' to him. He was a MacQuarrie, and whatever the factor told him to do, he would do it.
