Summary

How Dr MacLachlan cured a woman who had swallowed a frog.

A story relating how Dr John MacLachlan of Rahoy had cured a woman who had swallowed a frog. According to the contributor, this must have happened on the mainland or Mull as there are no frogs in Tiree. Dr MacLachlan heard the woman singing and he recognised that her voice was being affected by the frog. When the woman grew ill, he was sent for, and he told them to build up the fire and to put her next to it. He roasted meat on the fire and set a basin of water beside her. The heat from the fire and the smell of the meat caused her to vomit. When she vomited, the frog came up and she recovered. The doctor was known to practise the black arts.
