Summary
Building Eoligarry pier.
When Eoligarry pier was built after the time of the potato blight, the workmen received a stone of maize meal a day as pay. Their workmanship was excellent without any mechanical aids to move stones etc. The masonry was well done and the surface of the pier very smooth.
There was a landing place for the peats and one for the cattle. There was a large thatched house at the pier where they stored the sails etc. in the winter. They used to build a very large peat stack at this house. Boats were safe in this harbour in any weather.
