Summary

A dandling rhyme in which the adult pats the heels and toes of the child, then bounces him or her up and down during the last line:

John Smith of Falloch fine,
Can you shoe this horse of mine?
Yes indeed and that I can
Just as weel as ony man:
Put a bit upon the heel
For to make it pace weel,
Put a bit upon the toe
For to make the horsie go.
Gallopy, gallopy, gallopy.

The rhyme was sent to Jessie Chalmers by an 86-year-old woman from Dunoon named Mrs Nellie [?] (neé MacArthur).
