Summary
The singer would rather sport with Johnnie than work. On the banks of red roses Johnnie takes out his charm box to play his love a tune, and she begs him not to leave her. He takes out his knife and kills her.
Belle Stewart had the song from Ruby [Kelbie] from Banff, source of many of her songs and subject of others.
