Summary

The composer begins by reflecting on the ill effects of love. She cannot sleep, her heart is broken, and her hair is falling out, as she thinks of her lover who is sailing to America. In the second section of the song, the composer states that she will not go with the factor's son, or the joiner's son. She will go with no one while her lover is away. She describes him as a hunter of the swan, the roe and the blackcock.
