Summary
The Battle of Gruinart Sands and its aftermath.
In the old days, it was customary for the wives of the clan chiefs to accompany their husbands during campaigns. This was the case at the Battle of Gruinart Sands, when Big Lachlann MacLean was killed. Whilst bearing his corpse to the cemetery, his son Duncan laughed at how his father's body clunked against the sledge. His stepmother took great umbrage and killed him.
Mention of some who were rewarded after the battle, e.g. An t-Ollamh Ìleach, and of the close tie between Ireland and Islay which lasted some 300 years.
