Summary
An eagle stole a baby and took it to Hoy; a line of a poem about it.
In the days when people took their children out to the fields while they were working, an eagle swooped down on a little boy who had been laid on top of a hay cole [haycock]. It carried the boy away in its talons to its nest in Hoy, and he was only recovered with great difficulty. Ethel Findlater's mother could recite a few lines of a poem about it. Ethel recalls: "The crimson cap he wore that morn was still upon his brow."
