Summary - A ship which could sail on land and sea.

A king had one son when his queen died; he married again and had two more sons. The King of Ireland died, leaving a daughter, but the Cailleach Ruadh said she would marry only a man who could build a ship which could sail on land and sea. The king's younger sons set off to try, but refused to share their food with an old man they met on the road, and failed. The oldest son set off, and shared his food with the man, who opened a tussock of rushes and took him to an underground room. He set people to work, and in three days they had a ship which would sail on land and sea and in the air.

They set off for Ireland, taking with them three men they met on the way: one who could hear the Cailleach Ruadh speaking if he laid his ear against a rock, one who could break rocks with his hard bottom, and one who could empty a loch in three swallows. When they got to Ireland, the Cailleach Ruadh asked the king's son to sit on a chair made of blades, but the hard-bottomed man sat in it and smashed it. She asked the other to drain a loch, which he did, but threatened to drown her if she didn't agree to the marriage. She agreed, and they married. The king's son asked the old man how he could thank him, and he asked for his first son. When he returned to collect the child and saw the parents willing to hand it over, he let them keep it.
