Summary
Sailor's song/homeland song. A man is sad to be leaving Glasgow (the Clyde) and parting with his beloved. He has been suffering from homesickness, his hair has turned grey and his features have altered since he left his beloved Uist, which he had to leave in order to get work. He is therefore on the high seas, leaving sight of Ireland and heading for Buenos Aires. He names some of his shipmates who also come from Uist and enjoys hearing the sound of Gaelic when they are working high up in the rigging.
The contributor tells that he learnt the song from a Flora MacLeod from Raasay, who lived in Glasgow and was married to an Angus MacInnes from Sleat.
