Summary - A widow's foolish son brings money home to her while her wise son comes home empty-handed.

A poor widow has a wise son and a foolish son. The sons go to find work. Their mother makes bannocks for them and they stop to eat in a wood. The foolish son feeds the bannocks to the seagulls and the wise son gives him a row. They don't find work the next day and come to another wood. The wise son carries on, but the foolish son stays in the wood. Robbers come into the wood. He goes into the river and throws the robbers in, one by one, when they try to catch him. Next day he comes to a farmhouse and gets a job taking cattle to the sale. He sells the cattle and takes the money home to his mother. The wise son comes home empty-handed.
