Summary

A story about a schooner which was wrecked on the 22nd of July, 1821.

On the 22nd of July, 1821, the people of North Tolsta noticed that a vessel was in difficulty, and so a boat was launched from a local beach to rescue the strickened schooner. They soon found out that there was nobody aboard, but decided to tow her to the safety of a beach near Gress. Unfortunately, the stormy weather made this task impossible, and the schooner, named the 'Jane' foundered on rocks near Tolsta Head. This vessel had been sailing from Gibraltar to Brazil with a valuable cargo, when she was overrun by some of the crew who killed the captain and stole the money.

The contributor gleaned this story from the Seaforth Papers.
