Summary

Lochan a' Chlaidheimh got its name when Locheil and the Duke of Atholl settled a boundary dispute.

Locheil went to meet the Duke of Atholl to settle a boundary dispute. There was to be nobody there but the two of them. A woman told Locheil to take his men with him. He did so. The Duke was there before him. They couldn't reach agreement and the Atholl men appeared. The Duke said they were the sheep of Atholl that had come to eat the Lochaber grass. Locheil turned his coat inside-out and his own men rose. He said they were the Lochaber dogs and that they would take the heads from the Atholl sheep. They settled their dispute and threw their swords into a loch which became known as Lochan a' Chlaidheimh.
