Summary
MacKenzie and MacLeod: chiefs of Assynt.
MacLeod of Assynt gave a bride in Brahan Castle 20 bows as wedding present. He said he would give the same to all brides from Brahan Castle that year. MacKenzie had all the available women married, and presented MacLeod with a bill which he could not pay. MacKenzie attacked, but MacLeod was smuggled to safety under his mother-in-law's clothes. He is said to have lived on a small island in Loch Assynt for 20 years. MacKenzie lived in Ardbhreac until he built Calder House.
