Summary
HMS Scotia training camp, Ayr.
Murdo Campbell from Scalpay reveals that the site of the Butlins holiday camp in Ayr, which opened in 1947, was previously a Royal Navy training camp during the war. It was called HMS Scotia and used for training telegraphists, radio operators and the like. There were a thousand people undergoing training at the camp when he was there.
