Summary

Dances in Berneray.

There was not much dancing in Berneray. A dance was held at the end of the school term. People thought dancing was a bad thing. Those coming home to Berneray taught new dances to those who stayed at home. There were dances at weddings. These dances were held in the byre, and white sand was put on the floor for the purpose. The dances included the Eightsome Reel, Foursome Reel and Highland Schottische. The Merry Widow Waltz was very popular among the older people. The music was played on the melodeon, chanter and pipes.
