Summary

Seonaidh Roidein [Pipe Major John MacDonald] discusses piping.

Seonaidh Roidein [Pipe Major John MacDonald] relates how people would walk for fifteen miles to attend John MacDonald's ceòl mòr classes in Daliburgh. Many who attended the classes emigrated and made a name for themselves as pipers. He tells that he won the Gold Medal in Oban in 1926 with the ceòl mòr 'An Daorach Mhòr' and he plays the siubhal of that tune on the practice chanter.

He taught many pipers while in Glasgow, among them Norman MacLean. He still teaches youngsters. He plays on the chanter 'Ishabel T. MacDonald', a tune he composed for his niece. He also plays two strathspeys, 'Donald's Favourite' and 'Maltman's', on the practice chanter.
