He sings, in canntaireachd form, the 2/4 march 'The Braes of Castle Grant' to illustrate the long and short beats. He explains that reel time is split common time with a beat every two crotchets. Strathspeys are played in common time so the beats should be strong, weak, medium, weak. The strathspey 'Maggie Cameron' is used as an illustration.
