Summary
The making of bagpipes.
The contributor discusses the making of pipes. Many of the old pipers, including his father, made their own pipes. The bag was made of a three year old wedder's skin, sewn by the cobbler. Reeds were of Spanish cane, chanters were made of laburnum wood, and ram's horn was used instead of ivory. The inside of the bag was treated with Archangel Tar and beeswax to keep it dry. There was no 'well', or water-trap, in the pipe.
