A conflation of two songs: the first is 'The Unfortunate Rake', in which a soldier contracts a fatal disease after consorting with 'flash girls' [prostitutes]; the second is James Hogg's 'Flora MacDonald's Farewell', in which Flora MacDonald laments the departure of Bonnie Prince Charlie from Scotland, and the sorrow that has befallen since his defeat.
