Summary
A spooky place associated with Finns and trows put animals to flight at sunset.
There is a croft standing alone that the cattle, sheep, horses or other animals always clear out of at sundown. Andrew Hunter's mother told him that this behaviour pre-dated the building of the croft. The key may be in the name, Finnister, as the Finns were a magical people and the area around the croft was supposed to be a home for trows [trolls, fairies].
There is a knowe [hillock] behind the house, which has been deserted for some time. All the dykes are down [in 1974] and the cultivated land has reverted to hill pasture.
