Summary
Supernatural creatures and weather omens.
The contributor discusses supernatural creatures and weather omens. At one time people believed in the existence of water-cattle and water-horses. Water-horses could take the shape of men. She tells of weather omens, such as the belief that if it rained on St Swithin's day, it would continue to rain for six weeks. She also explains that people never left an un-baptised child on his own, or took him out of the house, for fear that the fairies would take him. She has heard of changelings being left in place of babies.
