Summary
The ballad 'Johnny o Braidislee' tells of Johnny going hunting against his mother's advice, and his confrontation with foresters, whom he kills.
Stanley Robertson learned 'Johnny o Braidislee' from old Maggie Stewart, though he had also heard his father and Jeannie Robertson sing it. Maggie sang 'grewhunds' for 'greyhounds'. Stanley demonstrates the difference between Maggie's style and Jeannie's by singing some lines from 'Son David'. The difference is between public and private performance. Stanley learned 'The Laird o Drum' from his mother. He learned 'The Clatterin o Clyde's Water' from Maggie, but sings it in his own style.
