Summary - Setting riddles and other pastimes on Yell.
Some guddicks [riddles] from Yell, including one about the moon and one about milking. Setting guddicks was referred to as 'laying up guddicks'. Some guddicks were adult in nature.
Another form of entertainment was drawing lines in the ash to represent boys, which the girls picked out randomly by reciting a verse; the other youngsters would try to figure out through questioning which was which. Another game involved passing the tongs while repeating a dialect saying; a mistake led to punishment.
