Summary
Fragment of a comic song in which the singer contrasts the happiness of courting couples with the misery endured by husbands after marriage. He vows never to marry.
Item Notes
This appears to derive from an American song by Harry Bennett first published in 1877 under the title 'Love', later known as 'The Bald-Headed End of the Broom' (G. T. Meade, 'Country Music Sources', 2002, p. 141; V. Randolph, 'Ozark Folk Songs' vol. 3, 1949, p. 105). The theme and several lyrics in this Scots song are very similar.
