Death omens.
The contributors' grandmother once saw a light coming from the loft of a house. She took this to be an omen, and the man of the house was admitted to hospital shortly afterwards. Other people saw furniture moving or heard strange noises, which were believed to be omens. The sound of a coffin being made was sometimes heard before a death.
