Summary

Folk musicians opening up to dance-band music and Burns' songs.

Accordion and fiddle clubs have a big following. Folk musicians used to dismiss dance-band music such as that of Jimmy Shand or Ian Powrie, but have now [1986] realised they had a lot of good tunes. Mention of Robbie Shepherd's programme 'Reel Blend'. Folk singers used to dismiss Burns' songs because they were usually performed by trained singers, but they are now beginning to take them up in their own style. Mention of the song 'Sound the Pibroch', which was revived by folk singers. Robert McKechnie sang it when he was presenting 'The White Heather Club' and made a folk-style arrangement of it.
