Summary
The fishing industry in Tiree.
The contributor talks about the fishing industry in Tiree. Some of the fishermen lived in huts on the shore. They dried the fish on the rocks and salted it. In his grandfather's time, fishermen came from the east coast too. Women would dig for sand eels and bait the lines while the men were out fishing. In Gaelic, this was known as 'ruidhleadh' [reeling] and the contributor recounts a humorous play on words used by a local man, when a woman told him that her brother was 'reeling'.
