Summary

In this comic song, a farm worker recalls his first working days, when he was given only brose to eat for breakfast, dinner and tea, leaving him perpetually hungry. He would dream about bannocks and butter at night, and always went to bed and rose hungry. The kitchen maid, his future wife, took pity on him and would give him biscuits. The singer admits brose has been the staple of many people, but still thinks brose for all meals is hard to bear.
