Summary

This is a waulking song with several sections. The opening theme is the death of a loved one. The following section speaks of the fate of fair-haired James in Duntulm. The third section has a homeland theme. The final section again refers to fair-haired James, and describes the beauty of brown-haired Isabel.

Item Notes

This waulking song was well-known in Uist and Barra at one time. A version of the tune of the song was used by Mrs Kennedy-Fraser, for 'The Benbecula Bridal Procession' which is in 'Songs of the Hebrides' vol. 2.
