Item Notes

Guitar accompaniment. Recorded at Inverness Folk Club 20th Anniversary Concert. This song was made popular by John MacDonald ('The Singing Molecatcher'). Hamish Henderson realised this bothy song was derived from the old ballad 'The Gypsie Laddie' (Child 200) ('How a bothy song came into being', 'Scottish Studies' 5, pp. 212-215; reprinted in Hamish Henderson, ed. A. Finlay, 'Alias MacAlias', 1992, 2004, pp. 115-118).
