Summary

The contributor tells a story about the song's composer. The girl displeased her father, Mac 'ic Ailein (Clanranald), who left her on a rock in the water to drown. She was rescues by the Laird of Coll and employed by him as a nursemaid. Mac 'ic Ailein was once invited to castle. While he was there, his daughter was asked to sing. She sang the song 'Bidh an Deoch-'s' air Làimh mo Rùin', improvising it as she sang. Her brother was also at the castle. He did not recognise her and was attracted to her. The 9th verse is her answer to his advances. Mac 'ic Ailein took her home when he realised who she was.

The contributor sings the waulking song which is the subject of the story.
