Summary

Father John and the Laird.

A Laird was going to kill all the priests on his estate unless Father John, the eldest, could answer three questions. Father John had a simpleton brother, who went to the Laird in his place. The Laird asked him first where was the middle of the world. The simpleton put a stick in the middle of the floor and told him that the distance to north, south, east, and west, if measured, would be equal. The Laird then asked what his life was worth. The simpleton said 29 pieces of silver - one less than Christ. Finally the Laird asked the simpleton, "What am I thinking now?" He replied "that I'm Father John, but I'm not, I'm the fool his brother".
