Summary

Orkney nursery rhymes:

a) 'Kirsty Kirsty Kringlik'
b) 'Eenty Teenty Haligalum'
c) 'Ba the Bairn o Beaton'

A riddle in verse about something that goes through a rock [distaff] etc.

Item Notes

The rhyme 'Kirsty Kringlik' was repeated while holding a spider in the hand as a way of asking if there would be anything for supper ('Saga Book of the Viking Club' vol. II). 'Ba the Bairn o Beaton' is a version of 'Baby Baby Bunting' (Roud Folk Song Index no. 11018).

The answer to the riddle "through a rock, etc." is usually some kind of grub.
