Summary - The Campbells in Tiree and the Skerryvore Lighthouse.
There has been Campbells in Tiree for a long time. The contributor's own family has been in Tiree for three generations. His great-grandfather came from Ardnamurchan. He was a shoemaker. He was already married before he came to the island, but his first wife died. He married again in Tiree and had three sons. All of his sons were in the lighthouse service; two on the ships and one a lighthouse keeper.
The contributor's family has been connected to the Skerryvore lighthouse for 150 years. His grandfather had not worked there, but had worked on the lighthouse ships. When he retired, he came to live in Mannel, and was given the signalling job in Hynish. The contributor's father then took over this job. He would sometimes go out to Skerryvore.
Robert Louis Stevenson had often stayed in Tiree when Skerryvore lighthouse was being built as his uncle was the engineer.
