Text transcribed in School of Scottish Studies. 3 verses and choruses of 4 lines. This song appeared in a broadside ballad sold at the Poet's Box, Dundee, around 1880-1900, consisting of 5 verses and choruses; this contributor's version omits the broadside's third and fifth verses.
Mr Coull learned this from a Ferryden fisherwoman; perhaps not uncoincidentally, the song to this day is known as 'The Ferryden Anthem'. Ferryden is a former fishing community opposite Montrose in Angus.
