2 verses of 10 lines; with a chorus of 2 lines; these fragments correspond to Burns' third and fourth stanzas. Composed by Robert Burns in 1786, in honour of Wilhelmina Alexander (1753-1843), sister of the Laird of Ballochmyle; Burns had seen her walking by the banks of the River Ayr, and sent this poem to her in a letter. The chorus is a later addition.
