Summary
The singer appeals to other girls who have known love, asking them for comfort and advice. A young man pays court to her, and she softens towards him, but he leaves her for another girl. She will not say what he told her, but says he has married for gold and his heart will soon grow cold.
John Strachan heard the song only from his mother, and has not heard it for over 60 years.
