Summary

Information about historic Fyvie and its war memorial.

A cross in a field near Fyvie marks the place where the priory formerly stood. Fyvie was once an important place. Robert the Bruce dispensed justice there. Long ago, long before the Leiths, the landowners had many French titles. There are various monuments, including the Seaton Tower, the Gordon Tower and the Leith Tower.

John Strachan was involved with plans for a War Memorial after the First World War. He suggested that a house should be built in which some deserving poor lady could live, with a memorial plaque on the wall, but a cross was put up instead.
