Summary
Historical tale of Lady Godiva and humorous anecdote about a local play based on the story.
In about 1037 an earl was going to punish some of his retainers. His wife, Lady Godiva, interceded. The earl said he would let the men off if she would ride through the town naked. She did so. A farmservant urged his friend to go to see a play of this in Turriff, saying there would be a naked woman riding on a grey horse. After some thought the man agreed to go, because it was a long time since he had seen a grey horse.
